Together we have a real opportunity to win reelection to the Iowa House
this November. I am proud of my record, both for what I have been able
to accomplish through legislation and for assistance I have given to
individuals and organizations in the district. A few of my
accomplishments are:
• Received the Izaak Walton League award for environmental legislator of the year. • Co-Sponsored the Wind Innovation Zones Bill. • Helped pass legislation imposing stiff penalties on CEO's who break child labor laws or underpay workers. Postville remains one of my deepest concerns. • Supported funding for community colleges and an unemployment modernization bill that provides job training for unemployed Iowan's without penalizing employers. • Served on a special committee that targeted ways to help small business with a package of low interest loans, streamlined regulations and easier access to technical assistance. • Helped amend and build support for a bill encouraging local food production so that Iowa can retain more of the estimated 12 billion dollars we spend on food each year. • Gained approval of my first bill granting disabled Iowans more opportunities to hunt deer. I have consistently said that the most important investment we make in any human endeavor is the investment of thought, and I have worked to apply that principle as vice chair of the State Government Committee. We cut spending and found new efficiencies in the way the State does its work. Smart growth and comprehensive planning can help us all in a lot of ways, including flood prevention, soil and nutrient loss, and improving water quality and wildlife habitat.
Right now we have an opportunity. By showing I have broad financial backing with a demonstration of strong support now we could discourage potential investment by special interest groups in my opponent's campaign. There are two ways you can donate to my campaign.
